A member of Think Plastic Brazil, the company presented a recyclable solution that combines technical performance, circular economy, and the use of renewable raw materials.
The companies of the FCO Group (Parnaplast, Plaszom, Embracel, and GDM Plásticos), members of Think Plastic Brazil — the Brazilian Converted Plastics Export and Internationalization Program, which offers a portfolio of solutions for the converted plastics sector in its internationalization process towards target markets, created through a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and INP (Brazilian Plastic Institute) — presented solutions focused on innovation, sustainability, and circular economy in the flexible packaging sector. Throughout May, from the 7th to the 13th, these innovations were on display at Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
“Our idea with the investment we are making in the trade show is to expand our export market to the European Union and comply with the guidelines of the new regulation, PPWR, which addresses recycled material content in packaging starting this year. We are very happy with the results achieved at the fair, and this will certainly consolidate our position in Europe over the coming years,” celebrates Wagner Delarovera, Sales and Business Development Director of FCO Group Brazil.
The FCO Group presented a monomaterial packaging featuring 30% plant-based content. It was developed using MDO-PE technology, functional coatings, and metallization, ensuring high barrier protection while maintaining recyclability within the polyethylene stream. The packaging combines technical performance with sustainability, reducing oxygen and moisture transmission and providing an effective barrier against light and grease. Therefore, it is ideal for dry and fatty foods, such as pet food.
The solution can be used on existing production lines without requiring modifications to FFS (form-fill-seal) machinery, making its adoption by the industry much smoother. Already available in Brazil and South America, it is primarily applied in packaging for dog and cat food.
“The participation of the FCO Group in Interpack highlights the progress of the Brazilian industry in developing solutions aligned with the circular economy, combining technical performance, recyclability, and the use of renewable raw materials,” emphasizes Carlos Moreira, Brazilian Plastic Institute Executive Director & Think Plastic Brazil CPO.
GDM Plásticos, also part of the FCO Group, develops MDO-PE films and the Green MDO-PE line, made from oriented polyethylene. The Green version uses renewable raw material derived from sugarcane, helping reduce CO2 emissions and the carbon footprint. Despite its renewable origin, the material maintains the exact same performance as conventional polyethylene: high resistance, rigidity, and excellent stability for printing and converting.
These films can also be used in metallized versions, offering greater protection against light and moisture. They replace multi-material structures, such as BOPET and BOPP, making recycling easier and supporting sustainability and ESG goals.
