The Think Plastic Brazil initiative aims to expand exports and establish connections with strategic markets.
From September 8 to 12, 2025, Think Plastic Brazil will hold a Trade Mission to Colombia, bringing together 26 Brazilian companies from the converted plastics sector for a strategic agenda of business meetings and prospecting with regional buyers. Think Plastic Brazil is a portfolio of solutions supporting the internationalization of Brazil’s converted plastics sector. The program is a partnership between ApexBrasil (the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and the INP (Brazilian Plastics Institute).
This Trade Mission will take place in Bogotá with the support of specialized local consultancies, offering participants the opportunity to connect with buyers from Colombia and neighboring markets such as Ecuador, Panama, and Costa Rica, expanding commercial prospects across the continent.
“Colombia is one of the most dynamic economies in South America and a gateway to the Andean markets. This Trade Mission was designed to foster valuable connections — ensuring security, technical support, and commercial intelligence — and to pave the way for the regional expansion of our industries,” says Carlos Moreira, Brazilian Plastic Institute Executive Director and Think Plastic Brazil CPO.
The partner companies participating in the mission are: ARTHI, Astra S/A Indústria e Comércio, Enerbras, Estamparia de Alumínio Oliveira, Force, Fortlev, FRONTEC, Jaguar, LOLLY, MarGirius, Martiplast, Maxcrill, Maxeb, Metaltru, Nitronplast, Nutriplan, Plasvale, Rainha, Sanremo, São Bernardo, Schwanke, Sforplast, Tigre, Uninjet, Velper and Wyda.
THE COLOMBIAN MARKET FOR CONVERTED PLASTICS
Colombia remains one of the most important markets for Brazilian converted plastics. The country projects GDP growth of 2.5% in 2025, expecting to reach 2.8% in 2026, driven by private consumption, high exports, and investment. Inflation declined to 4.5%, while unemployment fell to 9.1% at the end of last year — its lowest level since 2017. “Despite fiscal challenges and a high rate of informality, the Colombian economy is showing clear signs of recovery and stability, with a notable performance by the agricultural sector, which grew by 8.1% in 2024, and by tourism, which broke records with 6.7 million visitors,” adds Carlos Moreira.
Export data from companies participating in Think Plastic Brazil underscore Colombia’s strategic importance in the converted plastics sector. Between January and July 2024, companies exported 30.17 million kilograms of plastic, totaling US$39.86 million. In the same period of 2025, those figures rose to US$46.82 million and 36.25 million kilograms, ranking Colombia as the seventh-largest export market, behind only Argentina, Chile, and Belgium. The growth in both value and volume shows a solid, continuous demand.
Additionally, Think Plastic Brazil has implemented 20 initiatives in the country, including 18 trade shows and two bespoke projects in Bogotá. These initiatives have generated over 10,000 business meetings involving 339 member companies. These efforts have resulted in US$10.3 million in confirmed business deals, with a pipeline exceeding US$138 million and an ROI of US$132.02 per dollar invested. This data proves that Colombia is not only an expanding market but also a strategic trade partner for the sector.
