Member of Think Plastic Brazil, a portfolio of solutions for the plastic-converted products sector in the internationalization process for target markets, carried out through a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) and INP (Brazilian Plastic Institute), Cromex celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 5, 2025.
A leader in the Brazilian market for color masterbatches and additives for plastics, the company has a history marked by valuing quality, pioneering spirit and a commitment to sustainability, seeking the future of the plastics industry in Brazil. Founded in 1975, it is a reference in innovation and has achieved strategic milestones along its trajectory.
“Cromex has been part of Think Plastic Brazil since its founding. We have been writing this story together for over 20 years. It is a company that makes us proud and teaches us a lot about this market, good practices and innovations. Looking at Cromex as a mirror and inspiration also helps many companies in our sector today”, says Carlos Moreira, Executive Director of INP and Think Plastic Brazil CPO.
With an international presence for over 40 years, the brand currently exports to around 40 countries, with a presence in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. Today, 25% of Cromex’s production is exported.
In 2000, Cromex opened its factory in Simões Filho, Bahia, which later became the largest masterbatch production plant in South America. With a focus on efficiency and integration, in 2005 it adopted the SAP system to systematize, integrate and optimize essential processes across all units. It made its portfolio 100% free of heavy materials in 2013, demonstrating its commitment to health and the environment. In 2020, it adopted the digitalization of processes, such as digital signatures, management system and file management, to ensure agility and security in operations.
The company’s commitment to sustainability has been an important pillar in its 50 years of existence. Since 2009, when it began working with biopolymers, it has led the search for greener solutions. In 2019, it launched the rC-Black® line, which uses carbon black recovered from used tires, contributing to the circular economy.
The Act Green, Live All Colors® line, launched in 2022, brings several sustainable solutions, such as rC-Black, NIR, additives for recycling and masterbatches with post-consumer content (PCR), and in 2024 it was expanded with a new product: a Flow Aid additive free of PFAS substances.
The company’s vice president, Glauco Moraes, also highlights the company’s commitment to quality and the importance of innovation in its day-to-day operations. “Innovations often arise within the company itself, and are often requested by our customers and suppliers when they have a new molecule or a new raw material. Due to Cromex’s size and reach, suppliers seek it out to test their raw materials,” he emphasizes. Fast, personalized service and support, with a manufacturing and laboratory structure, ensure the agility and excellence agreed upon by partners, suppliers, customers and employees towards the future of the sector and the coming years of success.
