Fabiana Quiroga, responsible for Braskem’s recycling department and Wecycle platform and Fábio Sant’Ana, responsible for Braskem’s Circular Economy Packaging Development, met this March with entrepreneurs and guests from Think Plastic Brazil to address the subject of the Circular Economy for Packaging (PE and PP) and Design as a strategic tool for circularity.
A circular economy is an alternative to a linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which resources remain in use for as long as possible, extracting maximum value throughout their use, for subsequent recovery and regeneration of products and materials at the end of each life cycle*.
The action is part of the sustainable efforts of the Brazilian processed plastic export and internationalization program (created by the National Plastics Institute – INP – in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency – Apex-Brasil), in conjunction with Braskem, whose policies include the mission of encouraging political approaches that support and reward innovation and entrepreneurship and local solutions as the best way to enable technological advances and encourage private investment.
“The purpose of the course was to show an overview of the circular economy including Braskem’s initiatives and opportunities for companies,” said Fabiana Quiroga.
“The presentation showed that there is a path for discussions on the market, including topics such as recycling, design for environment, design as a whole, the plastics economy, and development of the chain”, highlighted Fábio Sant’Ana.
“The experts spoke about design from the standpoint of design, circularity, lifecycle analysis and other key tools that enable us to discuss with society, brand owners and other companies that seek to evolve in terms of knowledge about sustainability, so that, as production chain, we are able to respond to pressures and participate in the process in which plastics can be used consciously and to preserve the environment, enhancing its qualities,” added Miguel Bahiense, Superintendent Director of INP and manager of Think Plastic Brazil.
