V.Planet PCR inserts secondary packaging into the circular process and supports sustainable goals of brand owners

Sustainability

Think Plastic Brazil

The growing importance of sustainability has driven the development of packaging designed to facilitate recycling and encourage the circular economy. This trend is becoming increasingly prevalent across multiple aspects of the product lifecycle, involving brand owners, distribution channels and, most significantly, end consumers. Collaboration between the different participants in the production chain in the joint creation of packaging solutions adapted to this context is now an essential element in the development of projects that harmonize sustainability imperatives with production efficiency and market strategies.

Associate for over 15 years of Think Plastic Brazil, a portfolio of solutions for the converted plastic products sector in the internationalization process for target markets, carried out through a partnership between ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency ) and the INP (Brazilian Plastic Institute), Vitopel is a leader in the manufacture and sale of BOPP. The company offers a broad portfolio of products, including metallized, opaque, matte and transparent films.

Aligned with the trends and demands of the packaging sector, Vitopel developed the V.Planet line, a new generation of BOPP technology that enables recycling and the possibility of reusing materials in the BOPP itself. In this movement, the V.Planet PCR line was developed, which stands out for using post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR), being an innovative alternative for secondary packaging, including food, not only meeting the needs of protection and aesthetics, but also providing the potential to boost circularity with the added benefit of guaranteeing the same performance as conventional BOPP films.

According to Carlos Moreira, Brazilian Plastic Institute Executive Director & Think Plastic Brazil CPO, “Innovation in packaging, as demonstrated by the V.Planet PCR line, represents a significant advance in the packaging industry, as it reinforces the commitment to sustainability and opens new horizons for the industry, integrating recycled materials in an efficient and sustainable way”.

Through V.Planet PCR films, Vitopel makes it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the product and integrates the use of recycled materials, not only for the secondary packaging market, but also for self-adhesive tags and labels, also promoting excellent performance in labeling items such as drinks, beauty and home care products, with guaranteed traceability of the entire production chain.

Vitopel is certified and able to work with BOPP packaging for contact with food, using resins produced by chemical recycling through pyrolysis. The company complies with regulations such as the FSSC 22000 system, which aims for a safe product, and ISCC Plus, which guarantees its production of films from circular and renewable base resins, with the transparency that the volume of recycled raw material that enters its production process is actually converted into high quality final products, proven via mass balance.

The validation of this innovative packaging structure enriched with post-consumer content (PCR) highlights how technological collaboration can be a crucial vector in overcoming the challenges posed by packaging destined for recycling. This advancement represents a significant milestone in the development of solutions that align with manufacturers’ environmental commitments and drive the advancement of the circular economy.
