Largest plastics recycling company in Latin America announces acquisition of 3 Rios Fibras e Resinas’ PET bottle recycling activity

Valgroup, one of the world’s largest plastic producing, processing and recycling companies and the largest in Latin America, has announced the acquisition of the PET bottle recycling activity of 3 Rios Fibras e Resinas, in Poços de Caldas, in the state of Minas Gerais.

The company is investing in expanding, with an increase in installed capacity, the production of food-grade rPET (recycled PET resin), a recycling process known as bottle-to-bottle, which converts post-consumer PET bottles into new ones that are ready for bottling. The processing of Valgroup’s PET recycling units, located in Brazil, Mexico, and Spain, totals 145,000 metric tons of Post-Consumer Recycled Resin per year.

“Valgroup was a pioneer in the implementation of bottle-to-bottle technology in Brazil, being the first company to obtain, in 2008, approval from ANVISA to use PET PCR resin for direct contact with food products. Our technology has been improved to provide our customers with a high-quality PET PCR resin, ensuring that it can be used at a rate of up to 100%, without decreasing performance in the processing process,” highlighted Eduardo Berkovitz, Director of Institutional Relations and Compliance of Valgroup.
