Designer Jum Nakao, CEO of the atelier that bears his name, will be the new author of Color Trend 2024, a book aimed at the Converted Plastics sector, which will be launched during the World Plastic Connection Summit, scheduled to take place on August 21-24 in São Paulo.

Jum Nakao is a Brazilian designer and creative director, and the grandson of Japanese immigrants. He lives in the city of São Paulo, where his studio is located. One of the highlights of his success story is the book and documentary from the summer of 2004 on the São Paulo Fashion Week calendar, called A Costura do Invisível, in which he presented a collection entirely in laser-cut paper on the catwalk.

Nakao designs furniture, clothes, and spaces; directs films, events, and spectacles; and holds lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and shows, throughout Brazil and abroad. He is a key personality in the most important Fashion and Design publications in the world, and his work is part of the international collections of Museums of Art and Fashion.

In his production, Jum Nakao is able to reconcile the resources of digital technology with the sophistication of unique handmade garments, such as the meeting, in an atmosphere of suspense and fairy tales, of the elaborate fashion of the 19th century with the playful universe of Playmobil toys.

As Lautréamont once said, in what later became a surrealist slogan, “beautiful as the chance juxtaposition of a sewing machine and an umbrella on a dissecting table.” By dissecting the world, Jum Nakao sews together the unpredictable.
